On
March 15th, Melanie Hicks and I traveled to Penn State University to
attend their Career Day at the School of Architecture and Landscape
Architecture. This is an event we and a number of other firms attend
every year. As you may have guessed, the purpose is to help students jump
start their careers with jobs and/or internships. We have an opportunity
to present our work, share our experiences in the architectural field and most
of all, meet with current students to learn about them, their work, and
possibly invite them to join our team.
Penn State has a strong architecture program which is why we return each year. We know that the practice of architecture is a continuing education. (Some may not know that continuing education is required in many states for license renewal). In the “real world” we tend to use the tools we know and the updates to them. In academia, there are new tools being introduced and there are people who know how to use them. The mission at JLA is to not only serve our clients today, but to continue to mentor our successors who will someday serve and partner with our clients and colleagues after we have retired.
We returned to West Chester with a lot of resumes and work samples. We hope another Penn State student will be joining our firm this summer!
